Mission Statement
We are a voluntary organisation, whose main purpose is to encourage the Valencian Authorities to improve the provision of healthcare, and related services within Medical Area 22, and indeed within the entire Valencian Community, on behalf all residents of all nationalities.
Our fundamental belief is that by acting together, we can make a difference. We can press for improvements in our health services, quicker access to social services, and we can lobby for changes. If we do nothing then nothing will change.
We are a non political organisation, funded from voluntary contributions, plus a little advertising revenue from this our website.
If you want to improve the place where you live, the PUMA22 Association (just a few people) needs your active support. If you can help in any way, from fund raising, to organising and demonstrating, please contact admin@puma22.org.

ORIHUELA CENSUS FIGURES PUBLISHED
For the first time in its history the municipality of Orihuela has exceeded 90,000 registered inhabitants. The figure was released by the city’s Statistics department as at Monday, January 9 when there was a total of 90,967 registered residents. This compares with the same date last year when the figure stood at 88,868.

THE EUROPEAN Union urgently needs to respond to issues surrounding the mass migration of pensioners to Spain, according to a report based on Britons who have retired to the Costa Blanca.Professor Inmaculado Hurtado at Elche's Cardenal Herrera university examined the topics of aging, health and care since the 1970s.
He researched the lives of Britons aged 55 and over in areas including Santa Pola, Torrevieja and Elche to reach his conclusions.

Pioneering charity platform

Doctors not qualified
Health and medical pressure group Puma 22 – Platform for Users of Medical Area 22 – has voiced its concerns about the qualifications of General Practitioners within the local area and employed by health management company Torrevieja Salud. Torrevieja Salud is the private company responsible for providing and managing healthcare provision for the medical area 22, which includes the medical centres at: Rojales, Doña Pepa, La Mata, Torrevieja, Orihuela Costa (Cabo Roig), San Miguel and Mil Palmeras. Do they really care?
LIZ BUNCE contacted RTN after reading the recent story of Hungarian-born Andrea Toth who is suing Torrevieja hospital for alleged negligence after her husband, Germán González, died following a supposedly simple operation. Liz’s own husband Fred died on 4th March this year after losing a six-month battle against cancer. She feels that his case was mismanaged from the start, with alleged misdiagnosis, lack of information and a total lack of care by the nursing staff at the hospital.

Is Orihuela Costa getting any better?? YES IT IS
Few weeks ago we said that Orihuela Costa was not getting any better, but we are HAPPY to say that we were wrong. The councillor of OC, our loved Mr Houliston, as well as Pedro Mancebo and other councillors are improving our lives slowly, peacefully, step by step, wisely.
There is now a new coffee shop in the CDM ( the Sports Centre ), and the Civic Centre, the next library ( we hope), is now open to all the residents, with a coffee shop for all of us to meet up. Hospital doctors not qualified IT IS OFFICIAL
We said 3 years ago that there were doctors working in our Hospital, Torrevieja Hospital, without the necessary qualifications. The "comisionado" in a radio interview said it was not true and even said bad things about the doctor who raised the question and the person appointed by the Valencian Government did nothing, allowing these doctors to keep working, putting in danger the lives of patients. Now it is true. But not only is it true, we think there are many others working in Health centres who are not qualified.
WE ASK THE VALENCIAN GOVERNMENT TO GIVE US A LIST WITH ALL DOCTORS WORKING IN THE HOSPITAL AND THEIR QUALIFICATIONS.
WE WANT THAT ALL THESE PEOPLE WHO HIRED THEM ( DIRECTOR OF PRIMARY CARE.,etc..) to be forced to resign without compensation.

'Our lives in their hands' - PUMA 22 questions the qualifications of Doctors !!
Remember the front page article only 3 months ago in the CoastRider. Dr Roman Jimenez Gil & 'PUMA 22 questions the qualifications of Doctors.'. We have campaigned for 3 years to get the authorities involved in the investigation that is underway. IS IT? Or just they say so to keep us silenced.

New European residents' provincial councillor
ELCHE mayoress Mercedes Alonso is the new provincial councillor for European residents, replacing Maria Asunción Prieto.
The new Partido Popular (PP) team to run the provincial government was unveiled on Thursday. New president Luisa Pastor, the mayoress of San Vicente del Raspeig and widow of regional environment councillor José Ramón García Anton, will also remain in charge of social welfare.
