BAR OWNERS ENCOURAGED TO EXPAND ALONG PAVEMENTS
The town of Los Montesinos has decided to make a controversial change to its ordinance of occupation of public roads to enable businesses to apply for an extension to the area in which they may place tables and chairs beyond the space of their own premises without having to rely on approval of their neighbours.
The mayor is said to have already approved at least one application in the Plaza of the Sacred heart.
One local bar owner, José Carlos Sáez, said that Mayor, Jose Manuel Butron has changed the rules solely at the request of one owner's request in the main plaza of the municipality.
The mayor, however, insists that the same rules will be applied to all bar owners where the council is in a position to do so. The new ordinance was never intended to be exclusive to selected recipients. Anyone who applies will be considered.
